“Aircraft Electromagnetic Effects ”

Program Summary:  Members of the L-3 Electromagnetic Effects group discussed some of the Electromagnetic Compatibility concerns for aircraft, including lightning, RF Radiation Hazards, P-static, and putting commercial equipment on aircraft while maintaining airworthiness. A brief tour of the flightline is also planned (limited to US citizens).

Our Speakers:  Mr. Stangohr is the Engineering Product Manager for EME Services at the L-3 Communications Greenville facility. His principle responsibilities include Electromagnetic Environmental Effects of Airborne Reconnaissance /Surveillance and Communication Systems. His areas of involvement include System Level EMI/EMC design, analysis and test, unit level qualification design and testing to Military and Commercial standards, Lightning, P-Static, EMP, and TEMPEST testing. He holds a TEMPEST Professional Level II certification. Mr. Stangohr holds a BSEE degree from Wichita State University and has almost 30 years of EMC related experience.

Mr. O’Brien is a Principal EME Engineer for L-3 Communications - Greenville in the Electromagnetic Effects Group. His areas of involvement include aircraft EME design, analysis and testing; including EMC, EMSEC, RADHAZ, P-static, lightning and EMP. Mr. O’Brien has extensive experience with at the integrated system, box and board levels. He is a been a NARTE EMC with over 26 years of experience with a BS in Electrical Engineering from Washington University.

Mr. Bushnell is a Principal EME Engineer for L-3 Communications, providing engineering services in the area of Electromagnetic Effects (EME) for airborne systems. His areas of involvement include aircraft EME design, analysis and testing; including EMC, EMSEC, RADHAZ, P-static, lightning and EMP. Mr. Bushnell also has extensive experience with TEMPEST and MIL-STD-461 design, analysis and testing at the unit level. He has been certified as a TEMPEST Engineer (CTP II) and is a NARTE EMC and PS engineer. He has a BS in Engineering Science from Trinity University and has over 27 years of EMC experience. .
